Recover Factory Settings - Pavilion a642n - Windows 7 - 32-bit

Originally I had Windows Vista Home Premium, I did an upgrade to Windows 7.  I've been having problems with with a corrupted users account files, i could not see my Devices and Printers, can not use Windows Move Maker, can not use some of the trouble shooting wizards.

I've tried the following:

How to fix a users account corrupted files.

Recovery from a back-up.

Now want want to use the recovery to  its originally factory settings, since I don't have the recovery discs, there's any other way to do this,

Click the link>>> Contact HP

I am a bit confused..you state your model as A642N and original OS as Vista. The A642N shipped with XP. If that is the case ,I don't think HP will still have the Recovery Disks. But they are available HERE for $27.

Re: Recover Factory Settings - Pavilion a642n - Windows 7 - 32-bit

Yes the original OS was Vista. I did an upgrade to Windows 7.

When I click HERE it shows the OS Windows XP Home SP1 for the Recovery Disks, will it work even though I did the upgrade to Windows 7

Sorry I'm also a bit confused.

Are you absolutely sure of the model number, perhaps you are missing i number. The a462n  shown HERE was manufactured in 2004,  2 1/2 years before Vista was released.

Re: Recover Factory Settings - Pavilion a642n - Windows 7 - 32-bit

Hi CheryIG.

Further on my reply of missing a number on the model a642n instead of a6242n, I check on  (HERE) and they offer a 2 disks set for the Recovery Factory Settings of model number a6242n.  After I do the recovery, can I go ahead and upgrade the system to Windows 7 again?

I'm want to thank your very much for your help

Yes, you can upgrade again. Or you could just boot from the Windows 7 dvd and do a fresh install without recovering Vista first. You won't have most of the HP software that came preinstalled so if that is a factor and it is not available for download on your support page, probably best to do the upgrade thing.

Re: Recover Factory Settings - Pavilion a642n - Windows 7 - 32-bit

I only have the Windows 7 upgrade disigned for Windows Vista, I think I have to do the recovering of Vista first

 I'm  right?
