Re: Restore OS from Discs

I tried to download a DVD decoder with a purchased disk. Whoa! Did it do something crazy.

It said I had a hard disk failure and to use my discs to reboot. Well, it didn't work--BUT, I did get the Recovery Manager, and instead of having to do a complete system recovery, I chose the "Restore to a earlier time". It was a lifesaver. I did not lost one thing and it worked so much better after that. I restored it to the time just before I installed that "bad" program.

If you think you might need a system recovery, try a system restore to an earlier time. It usually works every time for me and I don't lose anything of very little at the most. :smileyvery-happy:

Re: Restore OS from Discs

Could you try borrowing a proper Vista installation DVD from someone, then, using your product key, install it on a formatted HDD? If the recovery disks are bad then that might work. You'd need drivers of course but you might be able to get them using another computer when it asks for them. If you use your own product key that should be legal shouldn't it, as long as you don't try to get a better version of Vista? After all, you only buy the product key don't you.
