Could be a corrupted file or bad sector on the hard drive. This test works for HP also.

HDD didn't pass SMART Test, so I put in another HDD that did pass the test and tried doign the reinstall, same issue.
I know that the computer gets to the point where in a DOS box it calls to Maestro.cmd before it switches to the tan screen with the scrolling file copy icon. I did a litle checking around and it appears that there is a x: drive that is created, the C: Drive doesn't contain the OS yet, the windows files are created on X:\, but that is as far as it goes before boring me to death with the endless file copy image.

I really don't know at this point. Could be the recovery discs are dirty or scratched. I would try a new HDD if the other is used.
Sorry, Without being able to get to the machine and actually working on it, I'm at a loss. I will try to think of something else.

I installed a new drive and needed to use the three disks that I had sent to me directly from HP for my specific PC
The install went well but hung up on the dos window, I rebooted and it went past it and did the folder transfer window for quite some time but it did finish
I restarted as instructed and windows comes up to a blue screen that says do not turn off the pc during this one time set up process
your pc will restart several times during this process
messaged may pop up on your screen...disregard these messages until you are prompted to restart your pc
The problem is ...that is as far as it gets. I let it run all nithg with no success. I have rebooted this morning several times in hopes it will continue but no luck
I even booted into safe mode with no problems then back to regular mode.
Still stuck on this window.
Anyone help me get thru it?
Had the original Hitachi drive take a dump, that is the reason for the HD change.
This unit is bone stock, never opened until I installed the HD yesterday.
it is a Pavillion A6234X
The warranty expired in Feb and the HD took a dump the middle of March...
no sympathy from HP
Can anyone help?
Thanks

Try the same steps as posted here.
Remove the memory and cmos battery and wait a few minutes. Then reinstall them and try again.

ok, I id the memory thing and pulled the cmos battery
Tried to boot, went into bios and set the date and time then saved and exited.
boot went well until it went to the screen after the windows logo
The screen went bizurk and had all squigglle and cplors and such so I shut it down and tried to reboot.
now no video what so ever. Can not get into the bios because I can not see it.
Tried pulling the battery again and no luck
What next? ![]()

I'd pull each memory stick and try and reboot with only 1 at a time (to see if one of the memory modules went bad). The, try a different vid card (if you have one handy). If neither works, then it's probably your mobo (or processor), but that's much more involved.
