Should I keep it or send it back and wait for Windows 7?

I guess I have put the cart before the horse but here goes. I just received my new HP Pavilion a6750t customized Desktop PC with Window Vista Home 64bit with the ATI Radeon HD 4650 512MB. Ater reading this Forum on Vista I don't know what to do!!

Well now I am really confused about VISTA. I don't even know if it will work with my  printer or scanner. I was so worried about getting the best bang for my buck that I didn't give the Vista thing enough thought.

1. Should I send it back and get someone to build me one with XP?
2. Should I set it up and try to change to XP myself?
3. Should I send it back and wait for Windows 7?
4. Should I just keep both computers?
I am so frustrated with this whole process.
I value your opinion!!!

Re: Should I keep it or send it back and wait for Windows 7?

Dear Confused....

Being an old pc instructor and current Beta Tester, I would like to offer "my 2 cents worth.

I would keep your vista desktop and be happy!  Having tested all the o/s's from MS, I highly recommend it.  In my opinion, (and I am sure this is going to start a very long thread here ...lol) it is the most stable I have worked with and probably the easiest for new users to get accustomed with. I currently run 6 pcs/laptops - all mixed xp pro, vista home, vista ultimate, vista prem - both 32 bit and 64 bit os, windows 98 etc on my network.  The vista pc's have the longest "up time" running without any errors.  They are the easiest to restore without loss and a huge "learning" benefit to new pc users. Programs have options to run in "xp compatible mode" on a vista pc if required.  It is a small sacrifice with a good reward for the user to upgrade the external hardware such as printers to become vista compatible and having vista run on hp pc's are especially rewarding.  HP's tech support are fantastic (no I am not HP tech ..lol)

Having come from a career in providing tech support to such computers as Toshiba, Dell, Compaq etc, I have recommended the HP/vista laptops and desktops to a number of my friends and students and have not had one complaint thus far. I personally just purchased the HP HDX 18" laptop and am loving every minute of running it!

Also regarding, windows 7 soon to be released... sometimes some pc vendors will offer either a great deal or free upgrade to the latest os release if the purchase of a pc and a new os release are "extremely close" in date.  I cant tell you what HP's policy is, you will have to find that out yourself.

So keep your new vista pc and look forward, not backwards to more stable releases and functionality!

Good luck

Teris

Thank you so much for your response. I should know better than to try and figure things out in the middle of the night. I am sure I will have more questions as I trudge through this change but at least I know there are people out there who can help.

Just installed Vista SP2 and just removed Windows 7. No way I want W7 back. Vista with SP2 is for sure the fastest of the two.

Re: Should I keep it or send it back and wait for Windows 7?

Glad to see that someone in the forum has installed Vista SP2. I'm backing every thing up right now and getting ready to install. Will update when I'm done.

Installed Vista SP2 x64 and so far no problems. One case of IE8 freezing, but that isn't unusual as it did it under SP1. All HP applications respond and so far everything looks good.
