After a recent virus attack ( Win7 Security), I have found that some of the software in All Programs, when clicked, come up as being empty. When clicking same software from My Computer it opens up. I have also lost Windows Defender. as I receive error message advising service has stopped, Error code 0x80070424.
Windows Security service cannot be turned on neither from Action Centre.
Operating system used is Windows 7 64-bit on HP Desktop G5105uk

I would consider doing a recovery.
That virus did some damage to your operating system. It is simpler to find all of your installed software, save your important data to an external disk (scan it of course!) and use the Recovery Manager (via the hard disk or yor recovery disk set) to perform a recovery to return you desktop PC to the state it was in before the virus damage.
Microsoft Windows System restore cannot help you in this circumstance.
