Sound fail

I have a HP Pavilion dv6299ea notebook with vista home premium.

I also have Civ 4 installed on it.

Whenever I run Civ 4 my sound gets messed up, both the sound in the game and any other sound my laptop is producing at the time (for example mp3 files and so on). The sound plays, but sounds horrible.

 

I have tried updating my sound drivers and changing some things in Civ 4 and it's options menu without results.

 

This problem however did not occur  when I had Windows XP running on the laptop.

 

All help is really appreciated.

try uninstalling and reinstalling the audio driver

 

also try uninstalling reinstalling civ
