System locking up after entering one incorrect character in my password.

I notice that whenever I type in my password and if I type one character incorrectly the system locks up. The options appears to to click on password hint, but again my entire computer locks up causing me to have to press the power button in order to shut off the computer.

Please indicate the model number of the PC, the Windows version and where this password is located (purpose) BIOS password may do what is being described.
