Two corrupted a6000n's

I have two HP a6000n  that are both corrupted. The had Vista on them. I spent the better part of a day getting personal photos off one so I could use the restore CD's I made. Of course they did not work they go all the way to the end then say "error 105(or 1005)" contact support. So I have machince I spent $2000 on that I can't use. First--who in they righ mind would make rcovery disks who only option was to wipe the hard drive? This make it certain you will lose data!

Can I get real set up CD for the a6000n?

How fustrating. I rebought HP because I had good luck with them in the past, are the worse or is it Vista?

Please let me know how I can get my machines going again.

Re: Two corrupted a6000n's

Recovery from F11 at boot or Recovery from discs will both wipe your hd and start from scratch again. You will lose everything you added if it's not backedup.

If the discs don't work i believe HP could supply a set at no charge or you can try running a Recovery from  the F11 menu at boot and then once you get Windows up and running you can create another set of discs for yourself.

Companies nowadays don't give out just a Windows Disc by itself. That's only if you got your own copy of Windows.

Re: Two corrupted a6000n's

I guess the days of computer customer support are over I guess. Once you have used computers awhile your apt to know way more than the customer support person who is just reading from a book. I called them. Ran through all their paces, got nowhere. First they said it would wipe the hard drive hen they said it wouldn't. Played wih F8, F11.  I guess I expected more from HP. This reminds me of the Packard Bell I had years ago with Win95. Every time there was a problem they had you reformat. I got real mad at them one time and they actual walked me through fixing it with out losing any data--it just took too much of their time. Does HP read these or is this just customers sharing what they have learned?  I am hoping to replace my computers in the summer-I might think twice about buying HP again

Re: Two corrupted a6000n's

There are a couple of HP Admins who read and help sometimes, but no,this is mainly a user to user support forum. So is HP Support sending out a new Recovery set? If not you can order from here_if the link is working(it is dead very often)

Re: Two corrupted a6000n's

The set should work on both machines if they are identical, except for serial number. Did HP by any chance give you any extra instructions for dealing with corrupted hdd?

'Flaboye' posted a procedure that HP support gave him, near bottom of page HERE

Re: Two corrupted a6000n's

I was thinking of replacing the hard drive on one machine and trying to deal with getting files and photos off it later. Do you think there would be any problem with this approach?

Re: Two corrupted a6000n's

Shouldn't be any problem at all. You could even pick up a USB hdd enclosure for the old hdd which should allow seeing the files/photos.
