Upgrading OEM MS Works to Office 2007 Standard

I have a HP pavilion Elite M9426f. I purchased MS Office 2007 standard upgrade. I have tied to install and it can not find the files for the upgrade on machine. I have tried to installed Update for Microsoft Works 9 and Works SE 9 (KB943290) and it needs the location of the MS works install files, asking for the cd. Is there a location for these files so I can upgrade to MS Office 2007 Standard.

The files will be on the recovery partition or your recovery discs. Either browse drive D: or insert your recovery disc when prompted by the installation utility.

Re: Upgrading OEM MS Works to Office 2007 Standard

If you've got a retail copy of Office 2007 Standard, simply uninstall Works.  Works and Office are two entirely different programs, albeit for roughly the same purpose (productivity suites) and by the same company.

After uninstalling Works, try the install again and tell us what happens.

You may also want to uninstall the trial copy of Office.

Re: Upgrading OEM MS Works to Office 2007 Standard

I have the upgrade version of MS Offe 2007 Standard. the upgrade requires MS Works to be installed. But I need the insallation files for the upgrde. The MS patch for MS work upgrade requires the intallation files to patch MS work to upgrade to MS office.

Re: Upgrading OEM MS Works to Office 2007 Standard//AND TO OFFICE 2007 PROFESSIONAL

I am having the same problem with the Upgrade version of MS Office 2007 Pro, which I purchased in disk form.  Tried to install on a brand new HP Pavilion with Works 9 preinstalled (Works 9 is specified as qualifying for upgrade).  Was unable to install for the same reason (it could not locate a qualifying program) , and unable to install the fix provided under MS KB 942390 for the same reason - I could not specify where the Works installation file (.msi file)  is, which the fix installer apparently needs.  If this file is on the PC, it may be hidden in the the D partition (factory image restore files).

So I tried your method, downloaded 60-day Office 2007 Pro trial.  Here is where I may have gone wrong.  Instead of activating it with the trial key, I used my purchased key.  Installed fine; activated fine; but at the top of the Word screen it says" Microsoft Word - non-commercial use".  I guess I will find out if this worked after the 60-day trial period.  If I get prompted again, I guess I will enter my purchased key again.

If anyone can provide other solutions, please post.  Incredible that MS has known about this bug and has put out a fix that does not work on most of the Works 9 out there (OEM on new computers).  Also incredible to me that HP is not doing anything to help (time wasted on phone).  Fro what it's worth, I did find a Gateway help page for this problem, but tried their installation file locations with no luck.  See http://support.gateway.com/s/issues/2-2600301441.shtml  Let's fix this thing!
