Hi. Yes, the Home Premium version of vista does not include the fax. You need to upgrade to the Ultimate version of vista to get their fax. Works seemlessly with the hp data/fax modem. You can purchase the anytime upgrade directly from Windows and they will mail you the disk (in the US $159 and about 2 weeks for shipping). Or you can buy the disk from a retail/electronics store where you live. Where I live the ultimate upgrade disk in the stores is going for $229 but is usually on sale for $189. Or you can shop around on the internet. If you do that, just make sure you are getting the laterst version which, I believe, is Ultimate upgrade with Service Pack 1.
Here's the comarison chart of the different versions of vista: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/get

I am having the same problem as you,i can't believe that HP would put a modem in a computer and not add the software.I do not want to internet fax. I also have an HP all in one type printer but I cant find any software to send faxes.I think i will discontinue buying HP products just because of this! Part of the reason i bought this computer was because the **bleep** box said it had a smart fax modem. So what the heck is up with this HP?
Mighty close to false advertising!
