Re: Windows 7 and HP Image Zone software

I just bought a used HP Officejet 5610   The situation was that I had a new Windows 7 machine that no longer worked with my old nice Canon scanner and my HP 5550 printer had broken cradles so I bought a used HP Officejet 5610 and was able to save/refill the color cartridge from that and I had a working black cartridge from my 5550 that worked with the 5610.  On the whole, I am stoked-- it works well.  The new old machine has a much better cradle design than the old old machine, but I still miss my OmniPage OCR software that came with my old Canon Scanner and will not work with Win 7 and Ominipage costs more new than I paid for my scanner in the first place, like 150 bucks.  I too have been looking for cheap OCR ware again.  I am told there is a small OCR applet that comes with Microsoft office that works well with tiff files only.  So if you already have Microsoft Office you already own it.  I'll try the Picaso software from google I guess.  The fax and scan software that comes with Win 7 works with my scanner, but only produces low res jpg files.  I understand that my 5610 likes working with Adobe Photoshop. I have copy of Photoshop Elements that hopefully will work with Win 7.  I will also try that.

thanks folks.

Re: Windows 7 and HP Image Zone software

Seems to me that HP just wants to sell new printers.  I mean, how difficult could it be for them to make new Win 7 drivers?

I used image zone frequently with my HP 1350 printer, on my old XP computer, for scanning documents into PDF files.  Can't do that with Win 7, so I have my old XP machine connected to my HP PSC 1350 pretty much exclusively for scanning to PDF.  HP technology takes a huge step backward.  Of course I suppose it can also be blamed on Microsoft.

Re: Windows 7 and HP Image Zone software

The only workaround I've found so far was to leave my laptop running on XP, to utilize HP Image Zone, and use my desktop with Windows 7 for everyday use....not a good solution, but works until HP customer support gets the message from us customers.

Re: Windows 7 and HP Image Zone software

Hi DM,

It seems that Photo Essentials is lacking in some features.  I can't find Panarama (photo stitch) any where in Photo Essentials.  I had all of that in Photo Smart.  Now it seems you (HP) have given just the bare essentials in this Windows 7 release, which does not measure up to the rich features in Windows 7.

That is my opinion.

Re: Windows 7 and HP Image Zone software

I'm with your wife on this one!  I was so excited about my new faster Win 7-64 bit machine for my scrapbooking tasks, but SO bummed that Image Zone won't work with my new machine - won't even install!  I did some photo editing, but mostly I used Image Zone for selecting photos to print, determining the print sizes, and sending the photos to my Photosmart 2310 or 8700 printers.  What software solution does HP have for that function for us Win 7 folks?...sure would love to have the Image Zone if HP is listening!

Re: Windows 7 and HP Image Zone software

I have recently purchased a new HP laptop.  I have been a loyal HP customer for many years.  I have currently 2 HP Laptops, 1 HP desktop and 5 HP printers.  I do extensive photo work and have used Image Zone for years.  I am not happy that Image Zone is not available.  Please fix it.

Re: Windows 7 and HP Image Zone software

Jose, that is the whole purpose of this topic.  Image Zone software is not compatible with Windows 7, so there is nothing you can do short of returning to Windows XP.

I can't believe HP cannot update the software/drivers to make it compatible, so it would seem they just don't want to.  It's been almost one year since I started this topic and it appears that nothing will be done.

You must either change your picture program or return to XP.

Re: Windows 7 and HP Image Zone software

You can add me to the list of unhappy HP customers that Image Zone has not upgraded for Windows 7.  So I buy a new Hp

desktop which comes loaded with Windows 7 (64bit) and I loose Image Zone in the process.  Google has not addreswsed the

redirect virus and HP has walked away from very good software :-((
