disk boot failure and windows failed to boot, etc. (blue screen too)

Hi, when i turn on my computer i get a two different msgs: one says disk boot failure, insert system disk and the other says that windows failed to boot due to a recent hardware installation or something of that nature. yet in both occasions i insert in the recovery disc which i got when i purchased my pc but before the restore cd number one installs (downloads) successfully 100 percent the process stops and i see a blue screen that says there is a problem with the hardware or something. i thought it was the hard drive at first and thus proceeded to replace it with a brand new one but that was futile, for the same problem remains. what can the problem be then? can anyone please help me? Also, if it says that hardware is defected, as it says when i do a windows diagnostic tool test, is the hard drive the only source that is included in that category or are others parts such as the motherboard included as well, my pc model is a 6030n and i just bought 2 years ago! in addition, do all recovery discs provided by hp look like they were made with an hp dvd with magic marker and not official looking like other discs? and if i purchased windows 7 and install that instead of my recovery discs (windows vista), would that solve the problem as well or would the "hardware" issue still apply?

Make sure you do not have a USB flash drive connected to a USB port when restaring your computer.  If you do, the computer may be attempting to boot from that flash drive and the error will appear.  If that is not the case, I strongly suspect the hard drive is beginning to fail and should be replaced.

Re: disk boot failure and windows failed to boot, etc. (blue screen too)

I have been going through the exact same problem with my HP Pavilion a6030n system.

I have two questions: Did you have your Microsoft update set to auto update and install ? And  do you remember if the Blue screen message contained the line "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL"?

I have been researching this issue for weeks trying to find a fix for my computer, The most recent talk from the "experts" suggest that this is Nvidia graphics or networking driver conflicts or compatability issues , perhaps even the graphics controller etc. What the current thinking  is  what may be occuring is that Microsoft auto updates replaces HP drivers on the sytem that are not compatible. It is suggested that the drivers or controllers from the updates be uninstalled and prevented from future auto updating of drivers etc. Then reinstall original drivers from the HP site which are germane to your system then if needed update only from HP.

I have no idea if this is the right answer for you and would love feedback on the issue from the wiser tech types here. I am providing information only not advice please understand I am not an expert!

Re: disk boot failure and windows failed to boot, etc. (blue screen too)

Thanks for the advice, my pc is also a a6030n HP Pavilion. My sister kinda (emphasis on "kinda" because she doesn't really remember with accuracy) recalls that a Windows update was installed the day prior to my pc getting messed up. When I used it the next day, my screen started blinking and I got a black screen with white letters that said something about fixing drivers that had 3 steps. It said the fix was recommended. And so I did it, but when I logged in, my screen blinked again and i saw that msg again. It got to the point that I became frustrated and no longer did the driver fix and pretty soon I couldn't even log on and I got several blue screens. One of those blue screens had that msg: "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL". Other blue screens had other msgs like one about cache or something like that. To make a long story short, I had a guy come check my pc out and he said it was the hard drive. I removed it and replaced it with a brand new one. Yet, when I installed the recovery discs, disc one wouldn't get to 100% and when it did, a blue screen interrupted disc two. So the guy gave it a second look and he removed one of the 2 memory rams (which he said was defective) and now miraculously my pc is now working, although I now have to buy another memory ram because my pc is now slower without it. After reading your comment, Im not sure of updating my pc anymore. Can you please elaborate a little more about what specific update did this to our pcs?
