dx7500 No DVD Decoding Program

Hello,

I ordered 26 HP dx7500 Microtowers and started to unbox them.  I work at a library, and some of the staff have asked me about playing DVD's on the computers since the drive supports it.  I rolled the computers out after restoring the computers to Windows XP Professional SP3, but noticed that Windows Media Player 11 complained that there is no DVD decoder installed on the computer.  After doing some research, I've noticed a lot of computers come with dvd decoder programs such as Intervideo WinDVD, or PowerDVD, or something like this.

I've looked through all of the disks that I recieved (Roxio Creator Business 10 DVD, the HP/Compaq Documentation and Diagnostics DVD, Windows Vista Business operating system SP1 DVD 1 and DVD 2, Windows XP Professional SP2 operating system DVD, the HP restore plus! restoration DVD, and the Office 2007 supplemental software DVD) and didn't find a DVD decoding program.

So, does the dx7500 come with DVD-playing software? I had to install third-party software (VLC Player) in order for DVD playback to work, but would rather have something less complex that the staff could use/are familiar with (WinDVD/PowerDVD/etc).

Thanks,

Joey Rawlings

Re: dx7500 No DVD Decoding Program

Thanks for the assistance, Serpent.

I posted the same message in the ITRC forums as well, it seems that HP is now offering WinDVD for download. See the link:

I'm used to having the physical media ship with the computers, but I see that is not the required way anymore.

Thanks again,

Joey Rawlings
