free upgrade from vista to windows 7

I have an HP desktop that I purchased in 2009.  It came with vista home.  Any way I can upgrade to windows 7 for free?  I just found a letter inside the package today that I can upgrade and it has an old expired link.  PC is P6000 desktop

i found the same letter on my system about 4 months ago it looked like the letter wasn't supposed to show up till after the expiration date i just wont buy another hp product lesson learned
