hard drive accendentily wiped with system restore, trying to recover backup. how do i do this?

HP Pavilion Slimline s3320f Desktop PC

Windows Vista

My brother was trying to move my hard drive to a new computer and accedentally wiped the hard drive.  the computer was backed up prior to this wipe.  I was wondering how to restore, or access, that backed up info. There is approx. 9gb of backed up files.

The hard drive has been reinstalled in original computer and everthing is working properly.  Just need to get that info.  Please help if possible.

If the hard drive was formatted (wiped) then all the data on that drive was erased.

backed up on the same drive?  and drive entirely wiped?  no way.  Keep your backups on a separate partition or drive or it defeats the purpose.

There was a partition.  It is called the recovery partition.  That is where the 9 gb are that I am trying to get to.  I try to access it and is says not to delete or alter files, but I can't even get into the partition to view the files.  This is part of my problem.

The Recovery partition is not a backup of your data. The sole purpose of that small partition is to perform a full Recovery of the hard drive back to the first day, as if you just purchased the computer.

was is not good.  Try mounting the drive as a slave/secondary on another system and see if anything survives.
