I have a HP Pavilion a6303w desk top computer with Windows Vista Home Premium. This is my first time here so please forgive me if I do this wrong. My computer has been making a noise that sounds like a running hair dryer every 20 to 30 minutes. I checked all my connections and my computer still makes the noise but not as much. I was wondering if the hardware diagnostic tools would tell me if there is a problem with my computer.

You might want to open up your PC and see if you can locate where the sound is originating from or located.
It also possible that your PC is heating up and then the fans kick in to cool in back down. Be sure that the PC is not kept in an enclosed air space such as a desk.
Try this procedure:
Unplug the PC and open it up. Clean out all the dust. Carefully remove and replace all the cables going to the motherboard one at a time. Do the same for the memory dimms and the video and sound cards if you have any. You might want to buy a can of compressed air to blow the dust out of the CPU heat sink. Plug your PC back in and give it a go.
