Re: hp link up

Hi lgarrett,

Do both PCs have an Admin account with a password?

Here is an HP Support Document and video that explain how to get HP LinkUp to work:

I have searched the HP site and cannot find the link to download the Link Up software. Could you provide?

Re: hp link up

Hi BigCTexas,

The link I gave earlier in the thread goes to a document that explains how to setup HP LinkUp and has the file linked in it. Here is the link to the file:

http://h41112.www4.hp.com/hplinkup/HPLinkUpSender.exe

I hope this helps.

Re: hp link up

I'm having the same issue as you, same error. I tried everything it said to and nothing worked and two days ago it was working fine. Contacted HP support who says the ONLY solution is to restore the system to the factory settings????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've only had it since Friday!  I can't believe that's the only fix.

Re: hp link up

Hi tiggeroo432,

Are you saying that HP LinkUp was working fine and then it just stopped working and gives an error?

Can you tell me what the error says exactly?

Also, do you know if you have had any new software or updates (even from Microsoft) installed before this happened?

Re: hp link up

Yes, it was working two nights ago, just fine. Now I get the message 1118, DNS look up failure. Not sure about any updates...................sorry. I just got this Friday tho. I also did a system restore back to the day that the linkup was working but it didn't help. I'm frustrated as heck here!  I tried to copy and paste the complete error message here but it won't let me. I even uninstalled and reinstalled the linkup program to the remote pc.  rrrrrgh

Re: hp link up

I even tried the ping thing and if I put in the whole ip address it wouldn't find it, if I put in all except the last two numbers it would get a response but I'm not sure about any of that.  I'm not too pc literate. lol

Re: hp link up

Hmmm...that is odd. The DNS part of the error makes me think this could be an issue with your network or at least how your network is recognizing the PCs. It sounds like it can't see the PC you are trying to connect to. Can you navigate to your remote PC without LinkUp (using Windows Explorer)? This could be a network error causing the problem. Perhaps the modem was restarted and forced a change to the IP address? If you can't see the remote PC on the network, then LinkUp will have problems.
