hp m9500y OS recovery disk

Hard drive failed had to order recover disk paid the almost $13 got the disk recovery went smooth had to recover to factory new settings like a new putter out of the box, 3 weeks later hard drive failed, put the OS recovery disk i paid for back in, i get error these disk are not for this puter recover can not continue, i made sure i had the right disk i do they match the same numbers and letters that's on my puter, went and bought a new hard drive $100, no biggy, installed puter found new HD i get the please install recover disk with the blinking bar on screen i put OS recover disk in, window logo, blue screen with white error screen these disk are not for this computer restore can not continue, WTH? i guess these OS recovery disk i paid $13 for from HP are only good for "ONE TIME" ill never buy HP again!!!! so IM going to strip it down for parts and build my own more reliable PC, but would like to know why the factor os restore disk made for the PC wont work for the PC it is intended to work on. oh ya i know why VISTA@ 64bit sp1

Not sure why the Recovery Disks aren't working a second time.Is the new hdd at least as large a capacity as the original? A smaller hdd can cause recovery to fail.
Rather than strip the machine,consider you can get an OEM copy of Windows 7 pretty reasonable at Tigerdirect:

It may be that the hard drive needs to have HP's Hard Drive DMI Utility run on it. Contact HP's Retail Support Center or call 866-477-3824 for assistance and/or passwords.

I believe it has been quite a few years since HP used a hdd tattoo utility. The motherboard is still tattooed, but no Utility or password is given out to consumers.Only Service Techs have (legal) access to those tools.
