The culprit on my system is Iolo's "System Mechanic."

Specifically, the "Fix Registry Errors" option did something that caused the error message to come up when I tried to print. I undid the fix, and was able to print. I didn't bother to investigate which of the 28 Registry errors that were fixed caused the problem, but I'm done using System Mechanic.
