iTunes and QuickTime Player will not open

I'm running Windows XP with Service Pack 3.

I had to reformat my hard drive.  After reformating and reloading iTunes, the program wouldn't open.  Received the following message..."iTunes encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience."

Deleted and reloaded iTunes several times on my own and with Apple support help.  No resolution.

I have an HP Pavilion with 2.6GHz Pentium 4 processor, 512MB SDRAM and 120GB hard drive.  The computer is eight years old.  Apple, Microsoft and HP cannot help.  Any ideas on how to fix this hardware issue?

Thank you.

Re: iTunes and QuickTime Player will not open

I would try reloading the system one more time, installing these 2 programs prior to doing service pack 3. I have seen this service pack do strange things to the way these 2 programs act.

Re: iTunes and QuickTime Player will not open

If you go to start, control panel, add and remove programs. Service Pack 3 should be in there to uninstall. You may need to check the check box at the top that says "Show Updates"
