low D-drive disk space on HP P6340F (new).

Made a backup to external drive. when about 2/3 through restoring it kept getting messages about low D-disk space so stopped.

seems it was restoring to the D: drive used to restore system. Now it has oly 6.9 meg and am plagued with 'running out of disk space on recovery D: drive" messages all day!

went through full procedure on the HP site (although written for VISTA, was able to find the process with Windows 7) and looking at the directory, there IS no file or folder with the backup name TO delete! (Yes am viewing hidden files) -

NEED HELP!

Re: low D-drive disk space on HP P6340F (new).

I am not sure whether you following the document which I am giving here but request you to follow that step by step to resolve the issue.

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01508532&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&jumpid=reg_R1002_US...

You should not only show the hidden files but you also need to see the system files.

If the issue is not resolved, please let me know the folder names you see in the D partition.

I am an HP employee.

Vidya

Re: low D-drive disk space on HP P6340F (new).

unfortunately, it IS the exact document I found and although it iS written for vista, making following it a bit of a challenge to locate and execute the suggested actions, I was able to view the files previously not visible.- As an aside, I didn't need to go through that path to see them as a progam I can't live without (totalcmd) allows me that same level of access and I wanted to see if the HP Doc exercise would show me anything different, but still the same result :-(  Toay I had to set the alerts for that popup off, and still have only 6.9 meg available on D: and NO large file to delete...

I have uploaded 2 files to help:

http:/pixtoshare.net/d_drive_main.jpg

and

http:/pixtoshare.net/d_drive_recycles.jpg

The 2 February recycleds must be HP originals as I have only had this PC for a week.

I request you to try opening HP Support Assistant. Under Maintain section, please do health analysis to resolve the issue.

If the issue persists, please show the screenshots of the contents of the folders Boot, HP, Preload, Recovery. Surprised to see the modified dates of these folders as 21-Jul.

[ Edited ]

OK -- health Analysis reported 'run defender', which I did and "Computer running normally".

New uploads:

http://pixtoshare.net/d_drive_boot.jpg  - (note Dupes!)

http://pixtoshare.net/d_drive_boot-Fonts.jpg  - Note LARGE Font Dupes)

(I expect therein lies the space problem) - BUT which  OK to delete - (2)'s, I suspect.

Will upload others if necessary, but looked OK and above 2 seem to be the culprits!

Re: low D-drive disk space on HP P6340F (new).

You discovered the issue correctly. The files got copied and duplicated. Please delete all the files which have (2) beside their names. This would not create any problem. This will resolve the issue too.

looks like it should, Vidya, but will see how it looks after a reboot as directory still indicating only 21.4 MB directory free space, even after a refresh. :-(

After deleting the files, have you emptied Recycle Bin?
