You are going to need an XP CD to repair it, can you borrow one?

If not download this ISO file and burn it to CD as an image, it is not an XP install CD, just the XP Recovery Environment for doing simple tasks.

Once the CD is made and you boot from it, follow these directions

Also see "alternate Steps" for repairing without a CD

Did you look through "Alternative" solutions in the last link posted by Mumbodog:

I have used the alternate steps on a PC and it worked great. (On that PC, a teenager had checked the option "Compress disk to save space")

@Mumbodog

Yes, I know. I just didn't want the OP to overlook it in his stressed state, and worry over trying to acquire the other tools when it might be his solution. And to mention that I have personally used it with success as encouragemnet.

I have edited my above reply to assure that you get credit for first post of the link.:smileywink:

Re: "ntldr is compressed" how to fix

A bios password would ask for a password before windows even starts to load, at the very beginning of startup. So its the XP logon password.

If it is XP Home edition, enter safe mode, go to user accounts in control panel and remove the password for the user account.
