"read only" files

Using an HP Pavilion DV9700 running Vista Home Premium, after working correctly for many months, I now find all of my files are "read only".  I have attempted to change this using the info found in the help pages, and it seems to work, only when rechecking the file in explorer find out that the have reverted back to read only.  Thus I cannot import them into prfograms for use as I get the message that I am not authorized to access the files and directs me to the administrator.  I am the sole user, thus am also the administrator.  I found this out when, yesterday, I tried to open a project in pinnacle studio 11, the program in shich these files were created.

Also, at the same time when going to the HP help sites, I noticed that in place of graphics, all I get is the old "red X" where I never had it before.

Also, tried to do a system restore and the system would not complete saying that it has failed and no changes were made.

Attempted to create a new file in Pinnacle and foiund that file also became read only.

Help please...

Thanks

Chris

Re: "read only" files

I do have this problem too sometimes. I don't know if this is the solution, but if I run a program as as administrator, usually I don't have that type of problem anymore. I am runnig this program by me and I can change anything I want. You do  have to have an administrator user account. though. That is easy. Just change your account status to administrator and you can modify and run most problems yourself. :smileytongue:

Re: "read only" files

Have you tried turning off your user account control? Turning it off helps on some of the access denied not admin errors.
Kudos appreciated if question answered or solution provided

Re: "read only" files

Unfortunetly, I am the administrator (and only user) on this computer.  I have been able to open the file as far as the menu (1st item), the rest of the file starts to load then stops with the frames black and no audio.  Then I get the access denied note.  Pinnacle, in all their wisdom, has chosen only to sujpport the latest edition (12).  Seems like they have only a sale in mind.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks,

chris

Re: "read only" files

Are you 100% sure you don't have a virus? Some of them can make all your files do silly things.
