restore disks

HP Pavillion desktop - apparently hit by virus today - S.M.A.R.T. Check keeps popping up telling me to purchase their software and they will save me

I thought I made a recovery disk - thought I saw it a couple days ago, but when I need it - ?

Would be happy to pay HP for disks or download of same - just want to get access to computer harddrive again to clean things up and continue with life as it were

Re: restore disks

Hi calbustel,

I'm not sure if you have a virus or if the SMART message you are seeing is adware. Computers do come with SMART firmware which monitors your hard drive for errors. Generally if you get a SMART error it means your hard drive is going to fail or has failed. Take a look at this HP Support document to see if it is what you are seeing:

Re: restore disks

Hi

You have a couple of options as I see it.

Please Use the F8 key once unit is Powered on select Safe Mode option check if unit loads to windows. Then go to Start -> All programs -> Accessories -> System Tool -> System Restore Try using the date went your computer was not infected by Virus. That should take care of the Issue.

Or please call HP technical support to order RCD or visit our website HP.COM enter the product number of the computer and you could order a set of RCD.

Let us know how it goes!
