title screen the nothing... please help!

[ Edited ]

SR5490AN . I had a power black out that last about 5 min, when i powered up my desk top again it gave me beep code(2 short 1 long series of 5) but nothing else. I replaced my nvidia graphics card thinking it may of been the issue as it wouldnt work in my other comp either.

Now i get the first screen(symbol on black background) but then when it goes to start vista I get a flash of a blue screen and it resets back to the title screen.

The blue screen flashes through in about 1 sec so i cant even read the error code. I have tried all my options from start up screen but not making any progress...

I have no disks for vista :smileysad:   and cant seem to get anywhere to even try to install a new driver for video card.

The new card is a GEforce 210  which i know is a back step but ...

Can anyone offer me some advice?

and no i cant get into recovery either

Re: title screen the nothing... please help!

Try taking your Cmos batery out for 10 seconds then refit (as having had a black out could have altered it)

Re: title screen the nothing... please help!

At the black screen do you see F9 for Diagnostics? If so tap F9 and test the hardware.

Have you tried using the onboard graphics connector just to rule out damage to the video card slot?

thnks cheryl. I have run diagnostics through F9 but it all came back good. i tried using a recovery disc but when i go through first 2 discs then it tells me 3rd disk is bad. i cant even get it to load up an XP disc now.. thank you very much though..:smileyhappy:

Ok it got the better of me and again i ran the test guess kinda looking for some type of progress! and i just got the BIOHD-4 error show up.. Now I am leaning towards buying a new system instead of throwing any more money at this one.. And i will now refer it  forever as my HP crabpot... we live and learn i guess..

XP install will blue screen on this machine due to SATA hdd and Intel Chipset, unless you have the option in BIOS to change the SATA controller from AHCI to IDE mode.

If the Recovery Disks you have are bad, you could Contact HP to order a new set.Usually around $20.
