when installing updates on operating system vista home  I get error code 80070641 I have tried the fix it method but it does not work, and my microsft installer programme does not seem to be working

Hi,

Go back to a known good Windows restore point before the issue occurred.

Try the tips listed in this thread.

Open up the Run window and enter the following:

cmd

sfc /scannow  ----> this will scan you critical system files and attempt repairs.  note the space between the c and /

Many thanks but still have the problem, the scannow shows everything to be alright but I have been told to try renaming the msi.dll fie to old and then form a new one, so will try that approach     Eric

It only allows me to go back to the 10/05 which is not long enough
