I have a HP DC7100 CMT  motherboard .And have tried to install Windows XP and Vista Ultimate on it and  both OS's will install the correct audio drivers and shows the device is working properly, but I get no sound? Any Ideas?

In both XP and Vista you have to go into the control panel and select Sound and then select output device that you want to use to provide sound.

Check to be sure mute all is not checked. Right-click the sound icon in the systray, open mixer and verify that it is not.

It is best to use the rear panel jacks for your audio connections on most systems. There are numerous posts in this section of the forum on this very same subject.

Re: HP DC7100 CMT No sound

Hi:

You can either use the Windows Vista Business audio driver from your PC's support and driver page, or go to the device manager click on the multimedia audio controller device, click on the driver tab.

Click on update driver. Do the automatic search and be connected to the internet. Windows Update should download and install a driver for you.

Where's SPDIF-OUT on HP DC7800 CMT ?

As published by HP, on the DC7800 (later CMT, no separate thread allowed by forum) there must also be a way to connect an S/P-DIF sink (5.1 digital audio / AC3) through Cinch headers / TOTX173 or TOTX195 optical transmitters:

HP Customer Care  >  HP Compaq dc7800 Desktop PC series  > Using Digital Out or SPDIF Audio

http://h10010.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=3459237&docname=c00501081

Before soldering directly to the AD1884 chip based on the information in http://h30499.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Deskpro-EVO/DC7800-CMT-Digital-audio-output-and-other-pino..., we'd have to be VERY sure that there is indeed neither a pin header on the mainboard nor an LED hiding e.g. in one of the 3.5mm plugs (back or front) that carries the S/P-DIF digital audio signal, since a connection does seem to go somewhere on the mainboard.

Thanks in advance for any information you may have on this.

Any contact to obtain schematics for "Grizzly" would also be highly welcome.
