I want to make sure what Realtek HD device it was. It is a Realtek 880 HD audio device.

I went into that link and downloaded the one you metioned as well as a windows 7 one that was in there, and as if by magic I now have sound ![]()
![]()
it took the windows 7 download however as well, had to install both to get it working
Thank you soooooo much kind sir, I shall be marking that soultion

I am so happy to learn you got it to work, and our efforts were finally rewarded.
I have never been so confounded by what I thought was going to be a "no brainer" fix.
Apparently your PC is extremely particular about what version driver can be installed.
R2.56 is very old since they are now up to R2.64.

yes yes I was the same, I was at the stage if that last bit you had said had not worked I would have to have taken it back to XP, but thankfully we got there in the end!
