Hello,

I have about a hundred t5325 thin clients we just purchased, and are using remote destop to a server 2008 R2 box, and from these thin clients, audio quality is HORRIBLE. its 95% static.  The thin clients are being used over the LAN and WAN.  I tried calling tech support, i didnt get anywhere, the guy didnt know what a thin client was 😞

If you have any ideas please let me know. I've test with speakers, headphones and builtin speaker, and changing volume levels. I've verified sound is fine when RDPing from my workstation or another computer. its just the thin clients.

Thanks

Chris

UPDATE

It looks like HP already fixed this stuff and has the newer packages on their APT repositories.  I have resolved this issue by taking the following steps.

1.) make sure you have the newest firmware (march of 2009 ships on the device, theres a release from april 2010

LINK: Download Firmware

2.) Once installed, login to admin mode, goto Control Panel> Advanced > X Terminal

3.) Then enter the following:

     a.) fsunlock

     b.) apt-get update

     c.) apt-get upgrade

d.) say yes to all updates

4.) Once done, reboot.  The sound issue and the black mouse cursor (08 R2 only) will be corrected.

Additional Note:  We had this same exact problem with audio sounding like static and the mouse was black with blended with the background of the Win 2008 R2 term server session.  The firmware needed as of 10/7/2010 was not listed, we had to call into tech support after many hours of troubleshooting and applying the wrong softpaq's we were finally escalated to tier 2 support.  We were emailed the correct files that needed to be extracted, which upgrades the hptc-rdesktop version from 1.6.0-1.29 to 1.6.0-1.33.   Problem solved.  Although, figuring out how to apply the patch is just as fun using the usb drive that you need to know the name of.  I hope you are familiar with linux.

I dont suppose there is any chance of getting hold of that update from you is there hp tech support are dragging their heels and we are still having major sound issues.
