Is there a processor update for a dc5000 PC

I have a compact dc5000 PC.

It has a Pentium 4, 3 ghz in it.

Does anyone know if the processor can be updated to something faster?

Thanks.

Re: Is there a processor update for a dc5000 PC

There doesn't seem to be anything on HP's site about it but according to fixya, under the Processor section (at the bottom), it is upgradable. A faster Pentium 4 with the same TDP or less and the same socket would probably work. You would also want to make sure that your BIOS is upgraded to the latest version (this is for the Microtower not the Small Form Factor PC). You might want to do some more research on the net and try asking at sites like Tom's Hardware among others. You can also try Intel support and their Processors Forum or even try emailing them.

Re: Is there a processor update for a dc5000 PC

I have the same PC and it has a socket 478. However, the 3.0 GHZ processor is pretty much the best you'll get, so upgrading to get a tiny bit better performance will be not worth it. I have 2 GBs of RAM and it's pretty zippy, but the DC5000 is getting old, and you can't really get it to be much faster. Also, if you're looking for gaming, the graphics card will hold you back.
