No Audio Output Device Installed message after Upgrading to Windows 7

[ Edited ]

I have an HP m7490n Desktop computer that I recently upgraded to Windows 7 Home Premium. I have been to numerous forums and tried to uninstall & reinstall my sound drivers. So far, I cannot find anything that works and my computer has no sound.

I also receive an error message from Windows Update saying that it cannot install the optional NVidia High Definition Audio Driver. Can someone provide any additional information that would help me solve this problem? Loving Windows 7 so far, except no sound!

Thank you

Re: No Audio Output Device Installed message after Upgrading to Windows 7

From your description, there are two audio devices on your system.

One is onboard, most likely Realtek High Definition Audio (your main audio) and one NVIDIA High Definition Audio (HDMI on your graphics card).

If the HDMI driver fails to install every time, then just opt to hide the update (right mouse click the WU driver) or don't install this optional driver update.

Suggestion:

Make sure you have speakers plugged into the back of the unit or front headphones. If audio doesn't work, your default Playback Devices might be defaulted to SPDIF Out. Right mouse click on the Volume icon in the system tray and select Playback devices. Select the Speaker out or headphone and Set it as Default.
