No sound after service pack 1

I have a HP  P6140f computer that came with vista and was upgraded to windows 7 pro. After the service pack 1 update I lost the sound.  Even though I have speakers or headset plugged in they show as not plugged in.   I have installed the latest drivers from Microsoft and the Reltek site. Here are some of the things tried:

rolled back the drivers and it now changed to 2010 version
downloaded the High Definition Audio Codec from realtek's website
uninstalled the drivers for the audio then let it reinstall the native drivers
uninstall sp1
performed inplace upgrade

Installed sp1

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

Unplug the head set for now.  Double check to make use the speakers are plugged into the correct port. It should be #9 in the below image which is similar to the back of your PC.

Double check your settings in the Realtek HD Audio control panel.

If Big_Dave's tips don't help, try>>Check in Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services for 'Windows Audio'. Select /highlight it. If it is running Restart it.If it isn't running Start it, using the links on left side of screen.

neither post has corrected the sound problem. Thank you for the replies. Any other suggestions would be appreciated
