No sound after upgrade HP Pavilion Media Center m8020n

I upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 and lost my sound. Tried the auto upgading (did not work), tried drivers from Realtek (none of them will install), tried intalling old drivers from Vista and they will not intall.

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: No sound after upgrade HP Pavilion Media Center m8020n

Hi:

Did you download the High Definition audio drivers from RealTek and not the AC97 ones?  If not, you need to download the High Def audio drivers:

http://www.realtek.com/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=24&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownType...

Did you first download and install the Intel chipset drivers for your motherboard before installing the audio drivers?

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=18494&lang=eng

If not, since you stated the drivers didn't install, go ahead an install the chipset driver & reboot, then hopefully you will be able to install the audio driver from the link above (accept the agreement and download the first one on the list).

Paul

Re: No sound after upgrade HP Pavilion Media Center m8020n

Everything installed and I have the 4 Digital Audio (HDMI)  drivers in my list they say nothing is plugged in and the Jack Information is HDMI Digital Jack. So does this mean I cant use my old speakers that have the one green cord that plugs into the back? I do see a spot for digital audio with two different type of plugs. Is this what I should be using? Do I need different type of speakers?

Thank You for your help!

Hi:

What you need to do is go into your BIOS and set your onboard audio card setting to Enabled. It is most likely set to Auto right now, and the video card with the HDMI sound has disabled your onboard sound card when it is set to Auto in the BIOS. The setting is probably found in device configurations. Changing your onboard audio setting to enabled will allow your onboard sound card to work as well as your video card's HDMI audio.

Re: No sound after upgrade HP Pavilion Media Center m8020n

I have the same problem on my media center m7330n after upgrading to Windows 7 professional.  I am very dissappointed that HP doesn't have the solution to this simple issue.  It is a matter of driver, I believe
