Let me just start by saying i'm not the most tech-savvy person, so you may have to explain some things to me step by step. ![]()
I just purchased a HP Pavilion P6205UK which runs Windows 7. The sound was working fine for a few days, but a couple of days ago - while listening to a song - the sound cut out.
I would just like to point out that the audio cable IS plugged in - I may not be tech-savvy, but I'm not stupid!
I would also like to say that when the sound cuts out - that's it. I can't get it to work again unless I reboot, at which point the sound works for a couple of minutes at the most.
I upgraded the drivers, to no avail.
I would really appreciate any help you can give me!

Your problem sounds somewhat like the problem I’m having and that I posted in the monitors forum because it seems to be related to the monitor’s built in speakers. In my case the sound works fine until I play a DVD, then it cuts out. If it cycle power on the monitor it comes back until I again play a DVD. I’d be curious if, instead of rebooting, you turned the monitor off and on. Maybe we’re both having the same problem.

Hello,
I purchased my HP Pavilion P6205UK Desktop on December 28th 2009.
Early into January, my sound just cut out. No explanation of why, either.
I'm running Windows 7.
I've changed settings in the BIOS.
I've tried to install the latest drivers from both HP and Realtek.
I'm at the end of my tether, I'm going to throw this out the window if it doesn't get fixed.
Help, please?
I should add that the output device is my monitor, a HP 2009v.

I have't had the chance to play around with windows 7 as I use vista 64 bit, so i don't know how much it has changed. One thing I can suggest is to locate the sound, video and controllers and uninstall the drivers in the properties. Reboot the computer and let it detect your sound and install your audio drivers again.
