No sound when connecting PC to tv via HDMI cable

Have a brand new SONY 46NX710 tv which I now would like to connect to my compaq presario CQ60, using HDMI cable. I am able to see my computer screen up on the tv, but have no sound, either on tv or computer. All computer units are working and verified, but it must be something else I need to do. Anyone have any idea? Will I need to install some other program in order to see a movie or clip from youtube with sound?

Nilla, did you check in the Control Panel to assure the sound device is set to default? I have found this problem several times when doing a new setup.

Hi,

 

Check the below setting in the Control Panel ---> Sound 

 

Your Playback device needs to be set to HDMI for the audio stream to pass down the HDMI cable.
