Re: Pavillion dv6000 headphone jack stop working

The headphone jack stopped working on HP laptop after I had used an external monitor.  I fiddled with Control Panel - Sound - settings.  After ten minutes without success and not in the mood, I resolved to try one more time in the CP - Sound, right clicked on Headphones and performed the Test.  I heard the test sound.  So, I set it as "default", restarted my output application source for sound and, voila, it worked.

Re: Pavillion dv6000 headphone jack stop working

No sound from headphone jack on friend's computer - HP Pavilion dv6000 - Windows Vista Premium (don't know it ever worked)  Always have sound from speakers, but never headphones.  Speakers don't  mute when headphones plugged in.  Right clicked on speaker icon (volume control) and found headphones not shown as output device.  Went to Device Manager and un-installed driver.  Restarted computer and Headphones then appeared as Output Device.  Driver automatically installed on start up.  Speakers still worked fine, but still no sound from headphone jack and no speaker mute (when phones plugged in) either.  Enabling or disabling either headphone or speakers made no change (did not shut off speakers or bring on headphone sound).  FINALLY - found that regardless of enabling or disabling anything all I had to do was click on an input source (radio station, in my case) while headphones were plugged to allow them to work (speakers remained off).  Unplugging headphones stopped headphone sound (of course) but did not start speakers AND headphones remained silent when plugged back in!  Had to restart input source to get either to work again.  Headphones work when source started while headphones plugged in and speakers would work when source started while headphones unplugged!  Why?   Haven't noodled that out but am happy to know how to operate phones now.

Re: Pavillion dv6000 headphone jack stop working

Exact same problem. The headphone plug in doesn't work, and the speaker sound doesn't mute. It must have happened around the same date. HP Total Care - doesn't care.

This worked for me - I went into Control Panel --> Hardware and Sound --> Manage audio devices --> Sounds. Under Playback I went on Communications Headphones (below Speakers for me, depending on the make you may or may not have this)--> Enhancements and selected all three. Now I have to click between "Headphones" and "Front Speakers" once or twice when I plug in my speakers or headphones, but it works reliably now where before it was buggy and seemed to work randomly if at all.
