Problem getting 5.1 surround sound through the HDMI out on my computer

I have my HDMI out running to my Panasonic 42" plasma.  I have my TV connected to a DVD home theater with an optical audio cable.  The HDMI Out to TV sound only plays in stereo (because Win7 only recognizes the TV output (stereo), not the Home Theater (5.1 surround) that's connected to the TV through the optical audio cable). I cannot run the HDMI out to the home theater, because there is no HDMI in, only out, on that particular device.

 

Is there a way I can force my HP to send 5.1 sound through the HDMI cable to the TV (which would, in turn, send it to the home theater through the optical cable)?
