Similar problem driving me mad!
Purchased a HP G62 about a year ago and only just noticed an issue with ripping my CD collection. The problem seems to occur on CDs associated with Warner Bros issued in the 00s. - These CDs sound distorted when playing back in a variety of software (itunes, WMP12 etc.) and still sound distorted when ripped by these applications. The CDs play fine in standard home stereo CD players and old PCs.
The laptop comes with a hp CDDVDW TS-L633N SATA CdRom Device - I can't find any firmware update to try either.
Any ideas? Where should I be directing my complaint? As far as I can tell, this is a fault that HP should take responsibility for as it would appear to have been present since the point of sale, irrespective of whether this is still in warranty?
