Sound problems with Creative X-FI Titanium

Well about a month after I got this system I noticed the sound would become very garbled after a couple of weeks (NOT POWERED ON CONSTANTLY).

Easy fix. Restart the system.

I was using it as a home theater system for bluray and didnt see a big problem except when it happens halfway through a movie. Then the 2 - 3 weeks became 1 or 2 times a week. Finally a month ago I stopped using it as a HTPC. I started just using it to play games and check email because the garbled sound occurs about every 3 - 4 hours.

Ive had problems with this system since I got it. First thing to go wrong was the whole SPDIF issue not outputing in 5.1 or 7.1 sound.(http://h30434.www3.hp.com/psg/board/message?board.id=Audio&message.id=440#M440) [BTW I am now using a old 1.8 ghz celeron with cheap $30.00 SPDIF sound card for HTPC. Has no problems whatsoever AND outputs in 5.1 and 7.1 channel.]  Decided to keep the computer and try and work it out. For this- HP gave me a free pack of photo paper and ink.

Next problem was the video card making loud noises due to a faulty fan bearing. HP replaced the video card (first with a 256mb one, THEN after yet another call- with a 512mb card the system was built with).

I regulary do a system restore from disk- about once every 6 weeks (not including the times support had me restore to try and solve the problems). HP CSR wanted me to do yet another system restore to which I declined siteing that if the other restores didnt fix it another one will not either.

Long call (50 minutes) later, the HP CSR "solution" was to remove the sound card, "dust it with a clean cloth" and re-insert it. Of course it worked after restarting the computer. It works EVERY TIME after a restart. The sound problem is INTERMITTANT and will not happen IMMEDIANTLY after restart. (I should know- I own the @#$%ing thing.)

So the call ended with me saying "ok- I guess I will be calling back in a few hours when the sound is garbled again" and the CSR saying "Ok if the issue happens again feel free to call us back".

If this computer didnt cost me what it did, I would so donate it to goodwill.
