Sound suddenly stopped working for HP Pavilion HPE h8xt

It was working perfectly fine a few weeks ago; then last week it stopped working and I haven't gotten it to play any sound since. I'm using my old Emachines SP-20A speakers. I tried my headphones to make sure it wasn't a speaker problem, but no sound from there either. I didn't make any changes I can think of.

There are no error messages, nothing. Everything seems to be fine, but...

I have a HP Pavilion HPE h8-1070t CTO Desktop PC and am running Windows 7 64-bit.

I'm really at a loss here and I can't work without sound. Help would be very much appreciated!

Some reply would be extremely helpful..

The green bars show up and reflect the volume I set it at when I play sound, but nothing is actually coming out from either the speakers or headphones.

I uninstalled the audio driver and reinstalled the original audio driver, with no difference.

One thing I have not tried yet is System Restore, and I really don't want to resort to that unless there is no other option and it is a guarantee fix.

It would be helpful if you posted the exact HP product number.

Think back to when your PC operated correctly and then when the sound failed.  Between those times, what changes or updates were made to your PC?

You might look in the Control Panel --> Programs and features and look at the changes about the time when your sound failed.  In that same Control Panel --> Programs and features you can also look at installed updates and dates.

Your PC is still under warranty so you might give HP Support a try.  You already probably know what they are going to tell you.

It failed some time between November 1-7, and I installed several programs during that period: a few Wacom tablet plugins, Autodesk programs, and Adobe Flash Player 11. I wonder if it might have something to do with the Flash player. Thank you for the links, I'll give contacting them a try.

For anybody else with a similar problem, I sent my PC to their repair center and had the motherboard replaced. It worked fine again for two days, but then the sound stopped working again - the exact same problem.

Now they are mailing me a new motherboard and is going to send over a technician this weekend. Hope it goes well and lasts longer than the last. I feel like this problem isn't "solved" yet if I need to keep replacing motherboards every couple of days.

The Issue I had has been fixed.  try using another pair of head phones or speakers. maybe in another plug. it might be that like mine I lost a head phone plastic cover for mine now my earphones wont go in to the plug.

I bought new speakers AND new headphones, tried plugging them in the front and back, played around with the settings, etc. The technician didn't know what was wrong either, so the motherboard was replaced.

As of today the sound is still working, so hopefully it was just faulty motherboards.

I have the same system, same problem.  This works for me:  turn off the speakers, shut down the PC, and unplug the power cord from the back of the computer.  Wait 5 minutes, plug back in, turn the speakers on FIRST, then turn the PC on.

Well, I found out what is wrong with the sound card and other PC issue. it turns out that either my roomate or his friends damaged it.
