Re: Windows 7 on e9280t has issues with Realtek HD audio drivers

Sounds like a problem with Windows 7 and autojack detect. I had this problem on a new vista PC that had realtek onboard when Vista first released. I solved it by updating the sound driver through Device Manager. Up 'til that point, I had tried updating the driver from HP and realtek.tw and even reverting back to older versions.

Give it a try if you haven't already. You can also try to get the driver directly from Realtek.

http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/

You should also be able to bypass Windows (sort of) and open Realtek HD audio manager:

Click Start

Control Panel

Upper right - select one of the icon views next to "view by"

Open Realtek HD Audio Manager

Click the little folder icon and you should be able to turn Jack Detect on or off.

Well, I'm in Realtek HD Audio Manager. But under Speakers, I don't have the folder icon. There isn't one there.

It probably is something with autojack detect. Every once in a while, the Realtek Manager icon pops up and says that it's detected that I have plugged in a jack. Then 2 seconds later it says it's been unplugged. It keeps doing that every 2-3 seconds until I close it.

Yeah, same.
Well, I didn't want to send my computer back because it's running nicely, like yours, so I just bought a USB adapter and connected my speakers to it.  Yeah, I am impatient.  I don't want to wait again.  :smileyindifferent:  I just hope that there will be a fix to this eventually.

Can you send me a link or something for the USB adaptor you got? Never used one of those before.
Thanks

This is the one I got.  I bought it from Best Buy.  You can buy one of these at your local computer stores as well.

Re: Windows 7 on e9280t has issues with Realtek HD audio drivers

I had very similar problem- I have logitech z-5450 5.1 surround speakers that worked perfectly with my old computer, but not with my brand new e9280t. It turns out to be a problem with the realtek sound card audio ports-- I always used the 3 colored cables, but finally got fed up that the speakers wouldn't work correctly, so I bought an optical audio cable and my speakers work perfectly ( i'm lucky that my speakers have an optical audio port).  Like you, my computer is working OK, so I didn't want to go through the hassle of sending it back.

Re: Windows 7 on e9280t has issues with Realtek HD audio drivers

Well, I got tired of the problems and bought the Sound Blaster X-Fi Go! USB sound card. Works great now. Do I need to set the onboard audio to 'disabled' in the BIOS now? Or does it matter?
