XP Pro Downgrade on New HP m9400f

Longest story ever - short version...

Because of certian production software that will only run in XP 32bit enviornment - I was forced to -reformat and replace Vista x64 Home with XP Pro 32bit.

Ok- that said, I managed to - Re-Install Every device -EXCEPT sound. I have had a similiar experience with the 8000 series new HP towers. Now I know this is a 2 part driver install.... There are (2) devices in the device manager that have no identitiy or are Unknown. The HP website driver download for this model M9400F only will support Vista drivers obviously. I can't seem to find the mfg or data info on this intergrated soundboard, can anyone help me get the sound working on XP Pro sp3? The Vista driver is listed as

Fall 2008 Original Realtek High Definition Audio Driver

This seems easy enough to go to Realtek's web page and manually download a driver from the home page at Realtek... I have not been successful at this. I am very savy, but I am not sure what to get at this point.... Help me please.....

You can disable the onboard sound chip and install a PCI sound card.

Before going any further I would suggest try the newest driver available.

ftp://152.104.238.19/pc/audio/WDM_R214.exe

Re: XP Pro Downgrade on New HP m9400f

Ok - I followed your instructions and used your FTP link and downloaded the  WDM R214.exe - I even got the PDF instructions and followed them. I ran the installer as ADMINISTRATOR and allowed it to install - after the suiccessful installation I was told it needed to re-boot. After re-boot, nothing. Upon looking into the device manager I still see it noticed 2 devices as : "Unknown PCI device" - upon manually pointing the driver to the folders that Realtek installed it simply says this folder does not contain information on this device...

Can you please help me?

Does it have the HDMI slot? Is there a modem?   If you could link a screen shot of the Device manager would be helpful.

Re: XP Pro Downgrade on New HP m9400f

Does it have a modem - no...

Does it have a HDMI slot? - A slot? - umm... it has HDMI and the Plug in in the back, and it also has a Digital Audio Out. This is the m9400f Hp Pavilion Elite one of thier newest towers.

- Here is a screen shot of the Device Manager....

Please let me know what you think.... From what I understand the sound is intergrated, but there is no clear HP source for XP Pro that gets the sound working. I managed to get all other devices working on this machine by plugging in SP2 - Then SP3 then .NET framework, then device drivers for NVIDIA nforce, then ATI catalyist....

Please let me know if you can help me... I can not be the only person that will be experiencing this problem...

Thank you!

Re: XP Pro Downgrade on New HP m9400f

Okay, I misread one thing. XP pro SP3. There are lots of people having sound issues with SP3 and most remove it then install the sound drivers then install SP3. It could also be you need this Realtek ATI HDMI Audio Device which is part of the sound and ATI video drivers.

You need to click accept and next.

I don't have a facebook account so no photo was available.

Re: XP Pro Downgrade on New HP m9400f

I downloaded the ATI HDMI driver from the link you provided... [ HDMI_R213 ] - this driver unpacked and ran it's course and at the very end it pc speaker beeps and says "No driver was supported in this installation package" click OK.

So I am now thinking about how you were saying that some people have had problems with the SP3 package... is there something else I should try?

Thank you so very much for your advice - please help!

Re: XP Pro Downgrade on New HP m9400f

I found the anwser!

The reason why the sound does not work IS ----------- SP3 !!!! thanks got the tip from you!

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericSoftwareDownloadIndex?lc=en&cc=us&softwareitem=pv-22533-1

Microsoft QFE Update (KB835221) to Support UAA Bus Driver

There was no clear link to  me that the sound issue was related to SP3 until you made the mention. I was able to do some research and found that Microsoft was lagging for a while to release a update for this, but the issue was definately related to SP3 and the drivers not being in the update package.

Thank you for your help!!!
