a1747c no soundit only see hmdi, need teh basic sound drivers

i have lost all sound on my hp a1747c desktop.    the only sound driver it see is ATI HDMI output and says  that it isn't plugged in.  right.... never has been.  my speakers are just plugged into the little basic sound jack.  i'm guessing there were drivers for that.  googling somewhere i saw that there were a long list of drivers like legacy... and codec... but i have none of that.  only this hdmi choice, which i don't have speakers for.

what do it do???    i've upgraded to windows 7.    i'm guessing i need drivers but no idea what kind or from where.  i need help

Hi herbslc,

Ah....so you upgraded to Windows 7. That's likely what the issue is. You do need to get the sound driver for Win 7.

Your PC has Realtek ALC 888 chipset for audio. You can get this driver directly from Realtek: http://www.realtek.com/downloads/   From here select "High Definition Audio Codecs", accept the agreement, and then download and install the Win 7 driver.  This should get your sound working again.

Let us know how it goes.

For reference, here is your HP a1747c Product Specifications.

Re: a1747c no soundit only see hmdi, need teh basic sound drivers

found the answer.  actually the answer is to ENABLE onboard audio in the system bios.  i think in a system crash it got changed.  and then i set it to auto.  that doesn't work.  needs to be ENABLE inorder for the native drivers to load.

whew!
