David,
How is your monitor connected to your PC? VGA, DVI or HDMI
DVI or VGA connections do not carry sound so you will need a discrete audio cable that plugs into the back of your PC in the audio output port (usually green) and then connects to the audio input port at the monitor.
HMDI does carry sound so other setting changes might be required. Let me know and I can help you with the settings.
BTW, I have the same monitor.
Get your latest HP 2159m monitor driver here. I also recommend that you update the video card driver from the video card manufacturer's web site. Go to ATI or NVIDIA for a video card update.

I am having the same problem. Already updated my drivers (NVIDIA) and monitor drivers. I have Windows 7 operating system. I can see the music digitally pulsating but simply have no sound. Not even with headphones.

Randy,
How is your monitor connected? (HDMI, DVI or VGA) DVI or VGA connections will require a separate audio cable.
If HDMI connected, the HDMI needs to be set as the default sound device in the Control Panel --> Sounds and also in the Realtek HD Audio Manager if your PC has the Realtek audio chip.
