no audio device

have just installed xp pro with sp2 and it comes up as no audio device. have tried clearing the cmos...didnt help...was working previous the new instal. am using a hp compaq dx7200 slim tower...what to do?

Hi,
Install the Microsoft Windows XP SP2 Universal Audio Architecture update first and afterwards install the Realtek high definition audio driver. The drivers for Windows XP are found on this HP web document.

will try what you said, yet just before i do...i noticed something else. when i go to control panel > sounds,speech, and audio > sounds and audio >hardware then right click on a driver, codec etc...it says the device is working properly...yet it also says location unknown.

yep it works, had a slight problem with the found new hardware constantly tring to make me find hardware while installing the realtek, and had to uninstal 2 drivers which came about because of the patch...later...ty
