no sound in Compaq dc5100 with XP Pro after system install

Hello

I got ahold of a Compaq DC5100 SFF desktop and installed a fresh copy of XP Pro using the key provided.  I was able to retrieve all drivers except for the multimedia audio controller.  I searched and searched for hours with no luck.  Any suggestion on how to get the sound to work?  I dont have the original install disk.  XP Pro loaded with service pack 3

Thanks for any help

Thanks for the response...

Yes I looked and tried there..  I updated the BIOS and checked the multimedia software.  That did not seem to apply..so which do I choose?

Thanks so much for the help and quick response

yes,,, Exclamation point next to the multimedia audio controller.  I believe that there was a question mark first then I loaded the Realtek A97 audio drivers.  The drivers did not seem to load right now I have the exclamation point.

Thanks for any help

Re: no sound in Compaq dc5100 with XP Pro after system install

Try this Intel utility update then go to audio device and uninstall the driver and reboot.

  1. Intel Driver Update Utility  Intel Driver Update Utility

After you reboot then go back into Device Manager and find your audio drive and right mouse click then update driver and now search for driver on the network.

Re: no sound in Compaq dc5100 with XP Pro after system install

Big Dave

I ran the utility and it did not detect a device or driver.  It said that the device is unknown or unsupported.  I uninstalled the device and rebooted.  Found the multimedia audio controller and asked to search for Realtek A97 drivers.  found drivers and installed them with a warning saying the drivers are not verified(?) I believe but installed anyway.  System rebooted to the same thing...found device..asked to find Realtek drivers..etc.  I am stummped.  Could the device be bad on the board?

Thanks for any guideance

Kevin,

Did you try www.realtek.com for the latest XP audio driver?

Yes..this is where I got the drivers originally.  I get the warning that the publisher cannot be verified but continued anyway.  Im trying again.
