s/pdiff header on the M2N68-LA (Narra6) motherboard

Hi,

I noticed there is an unused header on the Narra6 mobo labeled SPDIF_OUT2.  Does anyone know if this header is "active"?  If so, is this optical or coaxial?

It's used for connecting the SPDIF from the video card (discrete) to the motherboard.

Thanks for the response.

Can the S/PDIF header also be used to to connect a Coax In/Out PCI Bracket so that one could send the digital out to a reciever?  I guess by connecting to a video card you can use something like HDMI out; however, I'm only intersted in digial audio + my video does not have HDMI.

Thanks

What model PC do you have?  Most of the newer PCs have coaxial and optical digital out on the back but your motherboard doesn't have those output jacks.  I can't say if it's optical or coaxial.  Sorry no help right now. If I had to make a guess I would chose coaxial.  I took that guess based on that most amp/receivers convert coaxial to optical but that might be different with some models.

Re: s/pdiff header on the M2N68-LA (Narra6) motherboard

Thanks again... The output is both optical and coaxial.  The mobo is an Pegatron M2N68-LAHP/Compaq name: Narra6-GL6 (an ASUS in reality).  You can buy an ASUS part on Ebay and other places.  See  http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270540272643  as an example.  Anyway, others have said this works.  I'm going to give a try!
