Added memory, had to disconnect hard drive----

Hi--I added 2gb memory to my 2gb system (Pavillion m7680n, running XP). In order to access the memory slots, the hard drive had to be removed and disconnected. (true!) Now I see nothing on my monitor, cannot even get to safemode, restore, nor will my recovery discs operate. I would appreciated any advice-- seems to be completely dead (though I get lights when started up and fan operates etc-not sure if mouse, keyboard, monitor or drives are functioning??? Help me please!

Take the new memory module out and return your PC to its original memory configuration.

Does it boot into Windows now?

Did you purchase an memory module that was guaranteed compatible and identical to the original memory modules?

If upgrading memory, either remove the original modules and install the new modules or make sure they are identical in all respects.

Not following the practice that I described increases non boot scenario chances in a big way.

Re: Added memory, had to disconnect hard drive----

Thanks for that advice--booted right up! The new memory was from a different Company (mfd in different countries, though look identical pin wise). Would you recommend replacing th entire 4gb from same manufacture?

So grateful for your help!!!

Yes. Replace the entire 4Gb. If all are from the same manufacturer life is good. :smileywink:

It keeps things simple.
