I purchased an HP P6210Y for my wife for Christmas of 2009. Now that it is out of warranty, the hard drive and power supply went bad. I replaced the power supply and the hard drive. I inserted the first of the Recovery discs and started the process of restoring the factory image, but it stalled at 4% with the error code 0xe0ef0002. I looked up the error, which said that it was related to a problem creating a file.
However, upon rebooting the system, it didn't recognize either the new HD or the DVD drive, both of which are SATA. I tried switching them to the SATA 3 and 4 ports, which apparently allowed the system to recognize the two drives on bootup. However, the recovery process again stalled with the same result. On rebooting the system, it again did not recognized either of the SATA drives. I even tried clearing the CMOS, but it still only recognizes the SATA drives about every second or third boot.
This is very frustrating. I am beginning to think that the motherboard has a problem. I have always recommended HP computers to others, but this is the first one that I have purchased. I am starting to regret buying this computer.
Does anyone know why this is happening?

If you are thinking you mobo has a problem then your PS and HD you replaced has nothing to do with it
so the problem might be from the mobo not form the HD or PS( what kind of bad happend with them)

BobBurr,
(1) How did you verify the original hard drive is not working.
2) Were those DVD's yours, or purchased from HP?
If from HP, you need:http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloa
3) Did you use DVD+R or DVD-R (HP recommends DVD+R)
Now the really bad news, if the mobo is a M2N78-LA

AOG,
The system was locking up quite often and we kept hearing clicking noises. When we ran the hardware diagnostics (from the boot menu), it gave us a HD error. That's why I replaced the HD. I replaced the PS just to be sure that wasn't causing trouble.

wb2001,
(1)The HD failed the HP diagnostics.
(2)The DVD set was created shortly after we set the computer up. We used the Recovery Disc creation program from within Windows 7, I believe.
(3)We used DVD+R.
And finally, yes, the mobo is a M2N78-LA.

Bob,
If the old hard drive still boots:
1) Who manufactured the old and new drive?
2) There are clone utilities. Seagate and WD both make them freely available.

wb,
The old HD was a Hitachi and doesn't boot anymore. It started making clicking noises and we kept getting boot errors. The new drive is a Seagate, but the real problem seems to be that the system only recognizes the new drive every 2nd or 3rd boot.
Both the HD and the DVD drive are on the SATA channels, and the system doesn't recognize EITHER of them, except for every 2nd or 3rd boot. I even tried moving them from the 1st & 2nd SATA channels to the 3rd & 4th channels, but the same thing happens.
This is so frustrating. I really do appreciate your help.
Bob

Try this Hard Drive tool it will initialize your HHD and create a new C: partition on your hard drive.

Did you read this? It's your motherboard's NVidia chip. (See page #2 comment from bomberbob.
Another M2N78LA board problem.
