HD going bad ? System reports some errors after a power failure while in sleep mode

I have a HP Pavilion Elite HPE-112y Desktop PC and it still has the original 1tb HDD in, a WD10EADS-65M2BX.

 

Yesterday while in sleep mode, I had a power failure and once I started it up today I started getting error AMD RaidXpert - BSL Accessed on disk (port number 1, target ID 1) at LBA 0x0602ce9. I have looked this up, but can find what it means.

 

System information reports this as a model WD10EADS-65M2BX SCSI Disk Drive ? It is a SATA and this is the first time that I noticed it being reported as a SCSI drive

 

The AMD RaidXpert shows this drive as healthy and function, when I do the diagnostic test from the BIOS, it reports read/write errors.

 

My restore points are all gone except for my backup restore points. I managed to uninstall a windows update today and re-installed it after a reboot to see if the system would create a restore point, it did, but after rebooting it was gone.

 

In the event viewer volsnap reports "The shadow copies of volume C: were aborted because of an IO failure on volume C:."

 

Also got this warning in the event viewer "An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk0\DR0 during a paging operation."

 

My backup also just failed "The backup operation that started at '‎2011‎-‎08‎-‎01T04:32:58.046305700Z' has failed with following error code '2147942402' (The system cannot find the file specified.). Please review the event details for a solution, and then rerun the backup operation once the issue is resolved."

 

 

The machine otherwise works just fine, but I am concerned that my fortunes may change soon.

 

Are these just bad drives (about 1 year old). It always bothered me that the Windows Experience index was a 5.9 due to low disk data transfer rates.

 

If a buy a new HDD, what would be the easiest way to get back up and running, can I just somehow move from old to the new drive without having to reinstall everything ?

Just to add, the drive is NTFS and is the original equipment on the HP Pavilion Elite HPE-112y Desktop, which is a SATA drive.

 

I am assuming that somehow it got confused, and is now thinking it is a SCSI drive and assuming that this has caused the shadow copying to become disabled and hence backups are failing and restore points disappearing.

 

Hopefully there is a easy fix for this.
